Welcome to Groundsource Drilling and Contracting Limited.
Drilling and grouting typically involves drilling boreholes to allow the bulk filling (grouting) of abandoned mine workings that may cause a threat to the ground stability at the surface, such as subsidence. This most commonly historical coal workings but may include other forms of mineral extraction such as sandstone or ironstone workings.
Our Core Drilling & Grouting Services
- Consolidation of old mine workings
- Consolidation of old mine entries (shafts / adits / bell pits)
- Bulk Grouting
- Ground Anchoring
- Soil Nailing
- Gas and Water Monitoring
- Pre-drilling for Piling

Ground Consolidation
The demand for ground consolidation services and remediation is high due in the main to the scarcity of good quality building land. The company offers a UK wide service and operates in specialist areas including consolidation of abandoned mineworkings for coal, ironstone, limestone, sandstone, fireclay and oil shales together with mineshaft stabilisation and capping.
Treatment typically consists of producing a grid pattern of injection holes around the affected area and pumping cement based grout to form a continuous grout curtain. Secondary injection holes within the area allow grout in-filling of any voids with optimum ground consolidation. The company also has the capability to offer a site investigation service to both client and consulting engineers.
How it works.
At GDC we have large batch mixing plant and ancillary capable of pumping hundreds of tonnes of grout per day, plus smaller batch mixing plant that is more suited to smaller projects or tight working areas. We also have a range of steel shaft platforms suitable for the safe treatment and consolidation of shafts, mine entries and wells.
We have the capabilities to undertake small sites or individual housing plots with a handful of treatment boreholes up to large multiphase construction sites with thousands and thousands of treatment boreholes, which can include multi-seam treatment. All our works are carried out to the desired geotechnical engineering specifications required.
